Gardening with the Dueling Darlings

It's June 15th and time for another duel with the Dueling Darlings!  Today is also Father's Day here in the USA and so this is a fitting tribute to all father's, especially those who love to garden.  This month's hosts are Tami for the Divas and Darlene for the Dazzlers and they chose this theme and sent their teammates card kits full of papers, stamped images and embellishments to create a card built upon the theme "Gardening".  I'm a Diva (well, not really!) and received this fantastic kit from Tami full of gorgeous papers, stamped images and lots of embellishiments:
Image:  Riley & company, "Garden Riley" stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink
Designer Papers: My Little Shoebox/Farmer's Market/Farm Fresh and Sweet Pea; Best Creation/Gone Fishing; KI Memories/Family   Time
Embellishments:  washi tape by Studio G/Hampton Art; various ribbons, twine, buttons, glitter dots; rhinestone butterfly, paper flowers and more

Here's my card:
As soon as I opened the kit I knew I wanted to use the My Little Shoebox, Farmer's Market "Farm Fresh" scalloped circle on top of the K I Memoires "Family Time" floral paper.  I used this terrific brown cut out tape/ribbon to anchor the "garden"...Gives it great texture! I colored the Riley image with Copic Markers and did a little fussy cutting and mounted him on dimensionals.  I thought Riley deserved to have a giant flower in his garden so I layered flowers and button with twine and placed the flower on a stem die cut from some scrap cardstock.  It's bright sunny day here in the AZ desert so I decided to photograph this "sunny" card  outside on one of our patio tables.

I'm thinking my Darling Husband who is the gardener in this family deserves this card on Father's Day for being such a great dad to our two sons!  Tami asked us to include a favorite gardening tip in our post. I'm not a gardener so I really don't have a gardening tip to share. I just decide what plants I want in the garden and let my DH do the rest!

Kelly, one of my Diva teammates, is on the design team for Riley and Company and is hosting the challenge this week called "Terrific Textures"  so this card is serving "duel" purposes this week...heehee, love that little pun...both for the Dueling Darlings and for the Riley "Terrific Textures" challenge here: http://www.rileyandco.blogspot.com/2014/06/terrific-texture.html

  1. Oh Judy what a great card. I love that circular, scalloped DP. And the ribbon under the image just looks like more layers of Riley's garden. Great idea! Wonderful coloring too.

  4. Your card turned out great! I love how you created a 'big' flower with a stem from the embellies! I too liked the circular paper and you put it to good use. Cute as can be!

Your gardening method is what we refer in our house to 'the head finger pointer'! LOL
