Happy July 2014 Duel Day!

It's the 15th of the month and time for another duel with the Dueling Darling Divas (my team!) and the Dazzlers.  Every month one person from each team consult together and decide to theme for their scheduled month and create and send card kits to their team members with information and requests for the duel.  This month our team leaders Kelly for the Divas and Jeanette for the Dazzlers are the duo who created the Dueling Darlings.  Kelly sent us a fabulous kit and here is the challenge in her own words:

"This month, our challenge is EXTRA special because in early August, the Dueling Darlings will have been together for 4 YEARS!! I know, right?! It’s amazing! And the biggest blessing is that most of us are all original members with very little changes along the way. Because we’ve been a group for this amazingly wonderful amount of time, Jeanette and I thought it would be a little special to celebrate those 4 years! So in your kits, I’ve included for you 4 of a few things (more on that in a sec!) What we’d like for you to do is include somewhere on your card 4 things that must be the same! Not one ribbon, one button, one flower, one brad = 4. But 4 of the SAME THING  4 dew drops. 4 brads. Etc! We should be able to look at your card and know what the 4 elements representing our 4 years together are. So with that in mind, your challenge this month is:

Birds of a Feather, Flock Together!

I’ve also chosen to use an image that I’ve had for over 4 years as well for a little twist. It’s unusual, but you are talented girls, I know you can make it work! You have to build your image! I’ve included stamped images of the entire stamp set so you can pick and choose so you can pick and chose what you like but please use 1 tree image (there is a trunk, and two different tree tops) and 1 image from the sentiment/images page. And because if you’ve seen my blog posts lately, I’m having a slight love affair with burlap and it seemed fitting to this tree/bird theme. I hope you like the” Country Chic” kit I’ve made for you!

Kit Includes:
• Taylored Expressions “Branching Out” stamped image, stamped on GP, Tuxedo Momento Black: {This set was a special release w/ partial profits for the Eden Projects. The Eden’s Project’s Slogan is Plant Trees - Save Lives. They fight against deforestation and their organization recreates healthy forest systems not only through replanting/seeding but they also restore hope, alleviate suffering, empower communities and build local economies in impoverished areas}.
• DCWV Burlap
• Cosmo Cricket DSP
• Bakers Twine: Buttercup
• Prima and Jillybean flowers, leaves
• Recollections white sewn fabric ribbon
• Recollections paper flowers & stacked paper flowers/butterflies
• Kaiser pearls
• Dew drops and misc buttons
• Lawn Fawn wooden arrow
• Sunflower hemp cord & brown twine: Really Reasonable Ribbon

Blessings and happy crafting and thank you for not just being part of my life, but this amazing group! Happy 4 year Anniversary, Dueling Darlings!!!

Love you!
K"

I loved everything in this kit and was immediately inspired to create this card:

Can you see the four elements I used on my card!  ;-)  I sent this card to my sister-in-law who has been going through some very tough times this year.   I loved the soft colors of cocoa brown and peachy pink and I loved incorporating the wonderful texture of the burlap by die cutting it with my oval die, trimming with the twine and using as a background for the tree.  The birdhouse, nest and birds were colored with Copic Markers  and I added a sentiment from one of my stamps on the inside.

  2. Bless your heart, so sweet of you to think of your SIL - then again, you are one of the most generously thoughtful and blessed people I know! You are GOOD people, Judy!

I remember to note your used of your own stamp but I thought you meant a bird stamp - I'm going all up and down your card looking for a different bird, lol! I'm thinking now you meant inside :) Hee hee!

KUDOS for using the twine rope! You are ingenious! I would have never thought of that!

This is just beautiful top to bottom, inside and out - I pray it brought her some comfort.

BLessings, my friend and safe travels! ♥

  6. Beautiful card. I like the circle around the treetop and especially like the dark tree trunk against the softer colors. Very pretty.
